The first-generation Insight was a Hybrid electric vehicle sold from 2000 to 2006. It was the first Hybrid to be sold in the US market. In 2008, Honda revived the model as a five-door hatchback, charge-maintaining hybrid. The car made its successful, second American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show in the same year.

The 2010 model gas/electric hybrid car is a five-passenger, 4-door hatchback that mates a 1.3-liter 4-cylinder engine with a battery-powered electric motor for 98 hp. Honda's hybrid system allows Insight to run on one or both of its power sources to balance acceleration and fuel economy. No plug-in charging is required. Insight has a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). LX and EX trim levels are available. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain side airbags, and front side airbags.
