Overview
Hyundai has expanded Tucson lineup with an all-new entry-level GL model equipped with a powerful yet fuel-efficient 2.0-liter Theta II four-cylinder engine for the 2012 model year. The Tucson is available in well-equipped FWD, AWD GL, GLS and Limited models.
Powertrain and Performance
Hyundai has engineered the Tucson to be more fuel efficient than its predecessor and main competitors. The new trim - GL - is powered by a 165-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and available six-speed automatic transmission with 23 mpg city/31 mpg highway fuel economy ratings, a one mpg improvement over the 2.4-liter engine city rating. The GL comes standard with a five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic is optional.
A 176 hp all-aluminum, 16-valve Theta II 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine delivers an impressive estimated 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway fuel economy rating with the available six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC and front wheel drive. With All-Wheel Drive (AWD), the Tucson yields an estimated 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway.
Build and Styling
The GL is equipped with 17-inch steel wheels, a hill-holder feature, a trip computer, air-conditioning, full power accessories, keyless entry, a tilt steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a height-adjustable driver seat and a six-speaker stereo with CD player, satellite radio, auxiliary audio jack and a USB port.
The GLS comes with driver power window with auto up/down, leatherette bolster/cloth insert seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, illuminated vanity mirrors & glove compartment, steering-wheel-mounted audio and cruise controls.
The Limited is 18-inch alloy wheels with 225/55 R18 tires, leather seats, heated seating surfaces, power driver seat with power lumbar support, dual front automatic temperature control, auto-dimming interior mirror with HomeLink, retractable cargo cover and premium suspension.

The 2012 Hyundai Tucson is equipped with a number of life-saving safety technologies like driver and front passenger advanced airbags, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control (TCS) and Brake Assist, Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hillstart Assist Control (HAC).
